Thankful Thursday

I feel like this week is flying by, but I am so ready for the weekend! I have spent a lot of time doing some major spring cleaning and organizing and it feels really good. Sometimes I feel like I am avoiding thinking about Owee's birthday next week, I keep forgetting it is coming up, I don't have anything planned and I only have one small gift for him. I am trying to be excited about it, but my mind keeps wandering back to his time in the NICU and PICU, especially after his hospital stay last week. That brought back some difficult feelings and has caused me a bit of anxiety, so here I am cleaning and organizing. In the end, it is a good thing, I am clearing and opening up space, which I am so Thankful for!

I am Thankful that Wee Nut his home and doing much better, he is still having difficulty breathing, but we have Xoponex for he breathing treatments. It is a longer lasting medicine than albuteral and doesnt' get the heart rate up so high.

I am Thankful that our tax return got deposited last week and we can get to work on our addition again. The HVAC guys will be out here in about a month to finish up the heating and cooling and then we can knock down the wall from the back of the house to open up into the addition. After over 2 years, we will finally be able to use at least some of our addition. I am so Thankful and excited for that!

I had She Nut to the Dr first thing this morning, she ended up with the same runny nose, junkie cough, fever (but much lower) and ear infection that Owee had. The difference with her is that she is on antibiotics and at home. So simple. I am Thankful that she is not too sick.

I am Thankful that Wing Nut has finally figured out large number subtraction! It was starting to get painful, but now everything has clicked.

On to the little stuff, I am Thankful for late night baby cuddles, BBQ chicken, allergy medicine, my DVR, and my new laptop computer.

As always, I am Thankful for my happy, healthy, wild little beasties that run around my house all day long driving me crazy, I am Thankful that my husband has a job, we have a roof over our heads and for our wonderfully supportive group of friends and family and all the ways they help us.

So what are you Thankful for today? It is so easy to join in and tell everyone.

Here is how Thankful Thursdays works:

1. Post your Thankful Thoughts on your blog. Somewhere in your post please mention Welcome to the Nut House and/or http://ourhappynuthouse.blogspot.com/ so that your friends, family and visitors know where to find other Thankful Thoughts. You can also grab my Thankful Thursdays banner and link to that. Once you have done that you can come back here and add your post to MckLinky.

2. If you don't have a blog, you can leave a Thankful Thoughts comment in the comment section.

3. You can show your Thankful Thoughts any way you like, as a list, as a story, as one word, one sentence or just a picture.

My First Vlog, Owain is Home from the Hospital

How Owee is Doing, Update From The Hospital

Really, I am too tired to actually post anything, but respiratory will be here soon for his breathing treatments and I know that there is no chance of Owain or I sleeping through that. I am just aimlessly wandering around the internet waiting for them to come and can't really find anything to hold my attention. So I will give a quick update of simple basics of what is going on.

First, his fever broke late last night, and has not returned, yay!

After getting x-rays yesterday, we have the proof that he has asthma, which is something I talked a bit about with his doctor and was going to talk more about that with her today. We were supposed to have She Nut's 9 month check up today, but we are here instead. So his trouble breathing was pretty much because of asthma. His asthma could have been triggered by pollen, or the fact that he has both a viral and bacterial infection.

His c reactive protein level was up to 8, which means there is inflammation. Honestly, I don't know where for sure, but I think it is in his lungs.

We know he had a really bad ear infection yesterday in one ear, and now has one in the other ear. This is probably one of the reasons that his white blood cells are up to 1700. His bands white blood cells were up to 20%. I guess the bands while blood cells are the ones who work really hard when there is a big infection to fight. While they are very likely high due to the ears being infected, it could be something else. I don't know much about white blood cell levels, but after talking to the nurses today, I do know that his numbers are high enough to be concerned.

He has both a viral and bacterial infection, aside from the ear infections, we don't know where else the infection is, maybe early pneumonia, but we really don't know.

For now, we need to keep him here at least 48 hours from the time they did a blood draw, which was yesterday around 5pm.

His O2 sats are in the low 80's with room air while awake, and 77-79 on room air while asleep. So he sleeps with the cannula and is on oxygen.

He is doing much better today, just well enough to let me know how miserable he is. I am really digging my new laptop and how wonderful it is for him to be able to watch Nick Jr shows in his bed when there is nothing but junk on TV. He is sick of this place and keeps telling the nurses bye-bye. He is ready for home and misses his brothers and baby sister, he keeps calling for them to come hang out with him.

There may be more that I am forgetting, but respiratory just left and I am unplugging for the night.

Wordless Wednesday, Owee in Hospital Playroom

Back in the Hospital with Owain

Owee is back in the hospital. It doesn't look as bad as last  month when we were here. After running off to the doctor when he woke up from a nap with a 104.7 fever, he was having a really hard time breathing so we admitted him. One thing we know for sure is that he has asthma, which was most likely triggered by a viral infection. He has a really bad ear infection as well, it looks like it ruptured, which makes me feel really bad since I didn't catch it before it got bad. He didn't even act like anything was wrong with his ear, I think it came on suddenly.

So we are here for the night and as long as he has a fever.

Tucked in for the night. I hope he sleeps well and gets better quickly!

Great News from Peds Cardiology! Owee is a Lucky Boy and Mama Just Might Loose it

Owain is a Great Look'n Kid!

Most importantly, his Heart is looking Great!

Owain had a peds cardiology appointment a few weeks ago. Do you remember last month when I finally posted an update about is December appointment? Here it is in this post. It took me a while to post and update because I didn't like what I was hearing, so I figured I would just ignore the whole thing.

I am happy to say that this month's appointment was great news! Just as I mentioned in the other post, which was also an update from his latest hospital stay, his O2 sats are up. And it looks like they are staying up in the 80's which is just where we want them to be. While we were waiting for his cardiologist, he was getting bored, so we walked the hallways in clinic. When his cardiologist saw him walking up and down the halls, she said that is one of the best ways to tell how great he is going. I was very active and only just a little blue. He had no intention of stopping any time soon and would have been happy to continue to walk that call for much longer.

He had a full work up, with an echo, ekg and of course the pulse ox. Everything looked great! When we had our check up in December, we were at the point were we were scheduled for cardiology check-ups every 3-4 months, now we are every 6 months and it looks like surgery will not be until next year! Mostly likely it will be around the time he turns 3, so late next spring. We thought that his next surgery was going to be before the end of this year and now it is over a year a way. I know that things can change, and often do for Heart babies, and that anything could happen and his surgery may be pushed up again. For now we are so excited to be able to put it off for another year.

Yes, I know, he really shouldn't be standing on the table like that!
And so does he, but...
I had to grab the camera to catch that look of joy :)

His birthday is coming up in a few weeks, he is going to be 2 years old! It makes me so happy to see him grow when I think of how critical he was when he was transported to UVa Children's Hospital. I am getting excited, I am so proud of him, he is so brave and such a fighter. I am also finding myself getting lost in those thoughts again, remembering his first month of life. I am more weepy, sensitive, and find myself getting irritated by the little things. Last year the same thing happened, but it was much worse, it caught me off guard. I was expecting to want to celebrate his life, but what I really wanted to do was be alone with him. His first birthday was very different than my first baby's first birthday. I still don't know exactly what we are going to do for his birthday, there are lots of things up in the air right now that we are trying to schedule. But I think this year is going to be more fun, more of a celebration of his life.

I am finding myself to be a bit more down, and that has a tendency to transfer to my writing, but it is also the way I cope, deal, vent, and let things go. Random things set me off and I have been known to get a bit snarky. So if you run across something here that sounds whiny, obnoxious, weird, rude or like I am complaining about nothing, your first reaction is probably going to be right, but please don't hold it against me ;) We all fall apart sometimes, but at least this year it won't catch me off guard. I got my Zoloft, plenty of bite sized pieces of chocolate, a jar of Nutella and a Wii Fit that I can use to find my way though the rough time.

Thankful Thursday

Wow, I can't believe Thursday is here already! I hope every one is having a great week!

As you can see, I have been too busy to post anything new to my blog since last Thursday. We have had a great week though and lots of things are getting done around here.

I finally got my taxes done last night!! I am so Thankful that is done and over with and in just 8 short days we are going to be getting our return back and we can get a little bit of work done on our addition.

I have been doing some major spring cleaning this week. In the past week I have thrown away a total of 5 garbage bags of junk, one of which was a huge contractor bag. I actually found things that I put down in my office when Owain was born almost 2 years ago. The past 2 years have been a whirl wind and I feel like I am starting to get things that got pushed aside taken care of. I am Thankful that I am finding time to get rid of some of this junk!

Wee Nut started having trouble breathing again last night. I gave him a breathing treatment and slept close to him all night. Was up off and on all night long, but didn't get any worse and so far I have not had to take him in to the Dr or emergency room. I am so Thankful for that!

I was talking to Wall Nut last night about how good it felt to get some organizing done lately and how bad I have been feeling lately that I have let so many things go...some of them for almost 2 years. I am so Thankful that my husband is so understanding and supportive when I fall apart and let things go.

I am Thankful that today is Thursday, the week is almost over and I am so excited for the weekend to come! I can't wait to have a fun weekend with my husband and little Nuts!

As always, I am Thankful for my happy, healthy, wild little beasties that run around my house all day long driving me crazy, I am Thankful that my husband has a job, we have a roof over our heads and for our wonderfully supportive group of friends and family and all the ways they help us.

Thankful Thursday

Today is my dad's birthday, Happy Birthday Dad!

I love Spring Break! I love having my kids home with me, with nothing to do but have fun and hang out. I am so Thankful for a lazy week with my kids. We are having a bit of a heat wave this week and Spring Break has a bit of a Summer Vacation feeling, it is going to be hard to get back into a school schedule next week.

As much as I complained about it before, I really do love my new computer and have had a great time with it this week, I am Thankful to my husband for talking me into getting it!

All the rain from the past couple of weeks mixed with this weeks hot hot days has set the stage for blooming flowers and budding trees. My wild violets are blooming and taking over my gardens and yard, they are so beautiful! Daffodils and tulips are brightening up my yard, the dogwoods are blooming and the greens from my irises, hostas and lily of the valley are coming up all over the place. Spring has sprung and my yard is coming to life. I am Thankful for the beautiful colors of Spring!

My windows have been open most of the week, it did get too hot and I had to turn the AC on a few times for a bit, but for the most part we have fresh air blowing through my house. I am Thankful for Fresh Air!

I am Thankful for bite sized Easter candy, silly kids who make me laugh, baby babbles that catch my attention and hours of excitement shared with my Little Nuts on the Wii.

As always, I am Thankful for my happy, healthy, wild little beasties that run around my house all day long driving me crazy, I am Thankful that my husband has a job, we have a roof over our heads and for our wonderfully supportive group of friends and family and all the ways they help us.

Wordless Wednesday, Wee Nut Waiting Outside Bathroom While Mama Showers

I Feel Like a Kid in a Candy, Um, Computer Store!

You know those days that start out all sunshine and roses. Days where everything is going along nicely and the kids are on spring break. This week I don't have to do anything except some major organizing and finally doing our taxes. For many people I can imagine that doing taxes is not the most exciting thing, or even something to look forward to, but for me it is. I am usually ready to do my taxes by the first of the year. Everything ready, and just waiting for the tax forms to come in the mail. I love doing my taxes, because when I am done, I get a big chunk of money deposited into my checking account...and really who doesn't love that?!

I decided to jump right into doing my taxes first thing. When I put my Turbo Tax disk into install it, it did nothing. OK, no biggie, so I go into My Computer to click on the icon. No Icon. OK, starting to get worried. I take the disk out, check it out, put it back in, still nothing. OK, reboot the computer with the disk in, maybe it will just start up when the computer restarts. Still nothing. OK, into the run menu, tried to autorun, still nothing. OK, now I am really worried. I think, wait, maybe it is the disk, so I try another disk. Nothing is working. Hhmm. I am trying not to cry at this point.

So then I start to panic. My computer is broken and I can't figure it out. I tried putting different thing in different ports, some work, some don't. So it is not just my disk drive, it is all sorts of other things too. All I really wanted to do was my taxes and now the clock is ticking and nothing is getting done. I had plans, Plans! Things were supposed to be getting done, motivation was behind me and I was ready to go. My computer didn't get the memo though and the whole thing came to a grinding halt.

Off I went to walmart to buy an external disk drive. A simple set back, but one that I could recover from. Still trying to stay positive, but doing a terrible job at it, I get home ready to get to work. My computer doesn't even try to recognize the new external disk drive at all and is a complete fail.

After finally breaking down and crying while trying to figure out what to do Wall Nut talks me into driving up to Costco to get a new computer. It was a bittersweet decision. I have been longing for a new computer, longing for a laptop that I can drag around with me. I can sit outside with my kids and do my work at home jobs, write articles, answer questions for ChaCha, um Blog! I spent a good amount of time wanting a fun phone like a blackberry or iphone, but really what I wanted was a nice laptop. A laptop has been on my Must Have List and has been moving up in priority for a while.

I was not happy about the fact that I had to go out and get a new computer ASAP. While I mumbled under my breath about how lame I was that I still had a big old desktop that always had issues and didn't even have a webcam, I knew that eventually I would be able to go out and get an awesome computer that I would love. I just didn't think it would come up when I wasn't prepared for it.

I am the type of person who has to price everything, check every website, store and catalog looking for the best deal to find exactly what I want for the price that I want. I will look at Target and Walmart for months comparing prices for everything from car seats to socks just so I get what I want for just the right price. I have been casually looking at computers for months, I just didn't think that I was going to have to jump right into make a decision. Of course when I went to wally world earlier in the day I checked out laptops, you know, for just in case. I knew that for what I wanted, walmart was way overpriced, I also know that I can get about twice as much computer as Costco for about the same price or just a little bit more. And for me that is so important.

So I took my pouting self to Costco to get a new computer. It was hard to enjoy shopping for a new computer, we are so unprepared for this expense, but I did need a new computer eventually, so I didn't feel too bad. I am just counting is as my birthday present, even though my birthday is still 3 months away. It was after dinner by the time I got home, so that pretty much meant that nothing was getting done. The only thing I managed to do last night was turn my new laptop on and start getting it set up.

I did work on getting it set up today though, and I have had a great time doing it. I still have a few more things to figure out, but for now it is up and running. So I bet you are wondering, did I get my taxes done today? The answer would be no. I downloaded my internet security so I could safely get online and have managed to do nothing but personalize my new best friend awesome new computer that we really cant afford that was such an awesome deal at Costco. I looked at all the fun new backgrounds and screen savers. Customized my Windows 7, and downloaded firefox. I picked out a cute Theme from the new firefox that is of course Hearts. I have been digging through my password book and tracking down emails with passwords that I have forgotten to write down.

I can't wait to use this laptop as a homeschool tool. We can set up our lessons on the laptop and head out to the park or go on a field trip and have everything we need for the day on the laptop. How much fun is that?!?

Before some of you start asking, yes my new laptop has a webcam. I have not even looked into trying to figure out how it works yet and don't have the slightest idea what to do with it. So you might feel the need to bully me into posting a Vlog, but you will just have to wait.

Of course after a holiday weekend and a Monday without a computer, there was so much for me to catch up on. You know, blogs, twitter, facebook, theblogfrog. So. Very. Much. And of course I got nothing done today. I have been hanging out on the couch with the kids watching them play Wii, watching Shrek, eating Easter candy, you know, having fun over spring break. After yesterday, I needed another vacation. So I had fun with my new computer.

Yesterday was kind of a bummer, but really, I love my new computer. I feel so spoiled, I feel like I just got something really cool that I never thought I would get. Luckily my old computer still recognizes my portable hard drive so I can copy everything over to that and get all my important things like Quicken, last years taxes and all of my thousands of photos over to my new coolest evah computer that I love love love.

This is not quite the version that I got, Costco has a different processor and I think that is the biggest difference in the price. Mine is several hundred dollars cheaper, I think because both the different processor and the fact that it is from Costco. Here is a demo of all the funness that is my new computer.

Thankful Thursday

This week has been sooo boring, almost painfully so. Absolutely nothing exciting, scary or strange has happened all week long. That is fairly odd! I mean the full moon turned my Little Nuts into Little Beasties. I thought they were literally going to change into a group of wild beasts right in front of my eyes, but really, that happens more often than I care to admit. Four boys running around the house, climbing the walls, as chaotic as that it, sometimes there is no getting around things like that.

So what I am Thankful for this week? Well, the little things, the simple things.

I am Thankful that no one is sick!

I am Thankful that the temperature is rising and will be in the 80's this weekend. And that the kids have been able to get outside and play this week and will spending more time outside this weekend. Shorts, T's and tank-tops, flip-flops and sandals are replacing winter jackets and layers of clothes...so Thankful for that!

The warm weather also means that the muddy yard is drying out and my house is not covered in a trail of muddy clothes from the door to the laundry.

Seriously, Nutella on a spoon can turn my day around, Thankful for the nutty chocolaty goodness.

I am Thankful for fun homeschool projects and homemade clay.

I am Thankful for seeing the bottom of the laundry hamper.

I have put my 8 year old Wing Nut in charge of making lunch every day. I am so Thankful for his tasty peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!
