Thankful Thursday

It has been a busy week at The Nut House and I am ready for it to end. It has been a good busy, still getting things done and still moving forward.

I am trying to bury my frustration today and really digging deep to focus on the good things, which is really why I started Thankful Thursday. I really try not to complain about my husbands employer too much especially here. I always have this fear that some how some one will see it and what if my husband looses his job. Really though, I can only take so much! Yet again my husband has not received a paycheck, it is 10 days late and almost time for the next paycheck. They STILL owe him expense money from LAST year and we have no idea when we will see any of this money. I am so sick of all of the excuses coming from the company he works for. I am sick of having to borrow money for the mortgage and for our addition and I am embarrassed at our inability to come up with the money we SHOULD have in our bank account. I worry that eventually my husband will loose his job because his employer can't seem to find the money to pay him. They send him hours and hours away to work, half the time I don't even know where he is. We can't afford for him to spend all that gas money to go to work and then not get paid. So he is home today. He is working on the addition. We have plenty to do that doesn't require spending any money for a good month or so.

Anyways, situations like this is why I started Thankful Thursday. To leave all of that crap behind, turn around and look at my family and smile at what I have. So here it is.

I had 3 of the oldest Nuts at the Dentist this week and not one of them has a cavity! Yippie Skippie! I am Thankful for healthy teeth.

Wee Nut had his last 2 Synergist shots for the RSV season, I am Thankful that he is protected from RSV.

My husband is home to work on the addition, help out with the kids and be here for me as I have a meltdown followed by a nervous breakdown. I am Thankful for his presence.

My Little Nut Nut is completely potty trained and has been wearing under ware all day at home and at preschool. I am so Thankful that I don't have to buy Pull Ups any more, well just for night time... and he has been waking up dry!

Wee Nut is learning how to talk and is finding dozens of new words every day. I am so Thankful for his smiling face and sweet voice.

She Nut is out growing so many clothes all of a sudden. I am so Thankful that I can now get rid of those clothes that are too small to make room for clothes that now fit her.

I am beyond Thankful to my local BFF who comes over bright and early to hand out with my kids so that I can drop E Nut and twice a week, Little Nut Nut off at school. It is such a blessing to have her help and makes my mornings so much easier.

Hot Tea, chocolate, good friends in real life and online, Nutella, and surprise visits with pizza and wings from Grandma Nut are a few more things I am Thankful for.

As always, I am Thankful for my happy, healthy, wild little beasties that run around my house all day long driving me crazy, I am Thankful that my husband has a job, we have a roof over our heads and for our wonderfully supportive group of friends and family and all the ways they help us.

So what are you Thankful for today? It is so easy to join in and tell everyone.

Here is how Thankful Thursdays works:

1. Post your Thankful Thoughts on your blog. Somewhere in your post please mention Welcome to the Nut House and http://ourhappynuthouse.blogspot.com/ so that your friends, family and visitors know where to find other Thankful Thoughts. You can also grab my Thankful Thursdays banner and link to that. Once you have done that you can come back here and add your post to MckLinky.

Not every one has a blog, so:

2. If you don't have a blog, you can leave a Thankful Thoughts comment in the comment section.

3. You can show your Thankful Thoughts any way you like, as a list, as a story, as one word, one sentence or just a picture.

Have fun!

I Got the Hard Copy for the CHD Awareness Week Certificate of Recognition!!

This came in the mail the other day, it came so quick!

What do you mean it is only Tuesday?!? 7 Reasons why the Week Should be Over Already!

I can tell already it is going to be a long week. Oh Friday where are you? I am running out of steam already, still feeling motivated and ready to get things done, but I either need a do over or I need to jump straight to next week.

So far this week, as in just yesterday and today, my 5 kids have had, gone through or experienced:

7 Baths
6 Outfits of She Nuts that fit her last week are suddenly waaay too small
5 Major Meltdowns
4 pounds of chicken
3 Dentist appointments
2 Doctors appointments
1 Gallon of homemade almond milk

I have gone had, gone through or experienced:

7 times I cleaned up a very very wet bathroom
6 boxes of clothes looking for something that will fit She Nut
5 bite sized snickers...1 for each meltdown
4 pounds of chicken...we all eat together :)
3 dentist appointments that I sat in the waiting room for and for once my children were the angels in the room
2 big baby embraces after getting shots
1 major mother of a migraine

If I wasn't so worried that I would pass out from exhaustion in the tub and drown, I would say Calgon, Take me Away! Instead, I am feeding the kids cereal for dinner and putting them to bed early.

Where is Blogger the Frog? He is in the Snow Covered Shenandoah Valley!

Blogger the frog

A few weeks ago, we had another storm, I finally got around to posting pictures of the kids playing in the snow from that storm just the other day in this post.  It turns out there was a traveler who had spent time in Mexico with my bloggy friend Jenn. After that he went down to spent a bit of time doing mission work in Haiti and was there when the earthquake hit. He was too busy to to pause for any pictures and too busy helping out with earthquake relief. After that he then traveled on to Italy. After getting back into the states, he found himself in the middle of a snowstorm and needed a place to crash for a while. He picked the perfect place, he had a great time and the kids really enjoyed him being here.

As the snow was settling, we noticed a green and furry
little friend pull up in a snow covered Cozy Coupe.

Blogger is eager to go sledding with Wing Nut.

Hold on tight Wing Nut, I have never done this before!
I got ya Blogger, you are safe.

A turn down the hill with Little Nut Nut.
Hold on tight Blogger, we are going down!

E Nut is falling off the sled, but keeps Blogger the Frog safe!

After a few trips down with the Nuts, Blogger the Frog
feels confident enough to go down alone.
Good luck little guy!

Here comes Blogger the Frog!

Blogger safely makes it to the bottom of the hill.
Yay, that was fun!

On to the swing set, Wing Nut pushes Blogger.

Blogger is having a great time at The Nut House, he pauses to eat a
snowball snack before going down the slide. It is covered in
snow, but that is what makes it so much fun!

Time for a break, Blogger stops to sun himself for awhile.

Nut House tradition requires hot chocolate after playing in the snow.

Every frog deserves a cup of hot coco as big as their head with
marshmallows bigger than his eyes!

Blogger sees our brochures on Congenital Heart Defect Awarenss
Week and wants to learn more.
WOW, I didn't know CHD's were the Number 1 birth defect,
I am so glad I stopped by here!

Blogger went with us to our Mended Little Hearts CHD Awareness
Week event. He had some snacks with the kids and did some
Valentines day crafts. Wing Nut made him a VDay Heart.
I love red glitter glue!

E Nut made Blogger his very own Valentines Day Heart bracelet.
I feel so loved!

You can see more of our Mended Little Hearts event in this post.

We have had a great time with Blogger the Frog, but now that the roads are cleared and the airports are back to normal schedules around here, he will be moving on. He has many more places that he is planning on traveling to. To find out where else he has been and request a visit from him, please visit Jamie over at Mommy's Camera she will be more than happy to get the message to Blogger. You can also find Blogger on Jamie's Community on the BlogFrog  You can also see a map here of all the places that Blogger has been, and I will be checking that map out to see where he is going after he leaves here.

Good bye Blogger, we have had a great time with you, have fun in your travels and can't wait to hear about all of your travels.

The Day Little Nut Nut Got Stuck in the Basket Ball Hoop

Little Nut Nut was asking for help, but didn't really seem to be upset or worried. He climbed up the pile of snow, through the hoop and couldn't manage to get back down. Lucky for me him he had a nice spot to sit on while I ran into the house to get the camera.

A Video of Wee Nut From Last Fall, Learning to Walk

I have been cleaning out my camera memory card and I found this video of Wee Nut from last fall, end of September I think. This is taken the day that he really learned to walk. I posted a video of his actual first steps in this First Steps post in August that was taken just after She Nut was born. He didn't really take any steps for almost two months and then one day let go of the couch and just walked. I completely forgot that I had this video until I just found it. I am sure if I remembered that I took it, I would have actually posted it here lol ;)

Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday! The week is almost over and I am feeling good, how about you?

This week has been a very productive one at The Nut House. I have managed to find a good amount of motivation to get things done around here. So far I am having a very energized week with very little stress. I have started packing up the house to get ready to open up the back of the existing house into the addition. I suddenly had the realization that I can pack up everything and, even though the rooms in the addition only have paint and some trim, with plywood for floors, that I can move all of the boxes out into the addition. Brilliant! I have been trying to figure out where I was going to store everything when it comes time to put plastic up over the doorway to the living room...which is the room that will be connecting to the addition. I am guessing it is going to take me about 2 months to pack up the house and everything that needs to move out of the living room and find a place somewhere else. I also have to find a place to sleep since our room is on the other side of the living room. Things are starting to get a bit crazy and I am going to need every bit of the next two months to get it ready. Of course, I am not setting any goals or deadlines, because I am done being disappointed when they don't happen, so two months is more of a guess than a goal. Anyways, I am Thankful for Motivation and feeling good!

I am so very Thankful for Krysti and all of her help with the kids this week. She just might be reason I have so much energy and am getting so much done this week. You rock Krysti.

While I am extremely irritated that we have water leaking in around our kitchen window, and will most likely continue to leak in until all the snow and ice has melted sometime months from now, I am Thankful that Wall Nut was here when it started leaking and was able to remove some of the snow from the roof. We still have about 6 inches of ice growing in our gutters, but hopefully now that about a foot of snow has been removed from that spot...well I have no idea what will happen! I am Thankful that the waters stopped pouring in to the house for the moment, but I am sure it will start up again. I guess in the spring we have to take the gutters down and reinstall them the correct way, which would be at an angle running away from the house. Sigh.

You can see the ice forming up above the top of the gutters.

I am Thankful for all the help that I got from Grandma Nut in getting Recognition from the state of Virginia, and that Governor McDonnell recognized February 7th to the 14th as Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week. Hopefully by next year CHD Awareness Week will be recognized on a National level. Are you listening President Obama? Get your pen out and get ready to sign that proclamation Mr President :) If you didn't see my post from yesterday, there is an image that got emailed to me from the Governors Office, the hard copy is coming in the mail.

It has been a chilly week in the South, and I am Thankful for Hot Tea and warm and fuzzy blankets. I am Thankful for the time I spend curled up on the couch with the Little Nuts watching the Olympics...Go Shaun White! You are our new CHD inspiration, You Rock!

As always, I am Thankful for my happy, healthy, wild little beasties that run around my house all day long driving me crazy, I am Thankful that my husband has a job, we have a roof over our heads and for our wonderfully supportive group of friends and family and all the ways they help us.

Certificate of Recognition from State of VA for CHD Awareness Week!

It took awhile, and I requested a proclamation and got a Certificate of Recognition, but I don't think that really matters at this point. I was getting nowhere for a while, but Grandma Nut remembered she had someone on the inside who might be able to get things moving along. In defense of Governor McDonnell, he has only been on the job for a few weeks and my request went originally to then Governor Kaine. Once they actually got the proclamation, things moved along pretty quickly. I just got an email with a copy of the certificate with a request for my mailing address. I will get a picture of the document when it comes too. I know it is late, but better late than never, I am happy and excited anyways!

Mended Little Hearts CHD Awareness Week Gathering

Somehow I didn't manage to get pictures of everyone with their CHD Awareness stickers on...but every one got one when they walked in the door :) We had many of our MLH members there as well as several nurses and doctors from Peds Cardiology. I met and talked with a few families who were in the UVA Children's Hospital with their Heart Babies. I am glad that they got to met with us and talk to us about their Heart Babies and what they were going through.

Hey friend, my name is Wee Nut. My CHD is Double Inlet,
Single Ventricle, I hear you have a Single Ventricle too.
Dude, we rock!

Hanging out with Peds Cardiology Nurses and Doctors.
The kids have having snacks and doing Heart Crafts.

Fun times!

Wee Nut is getting in on the crafting action too.

Just one last picture of the kids.

Another Snow Storm, Another Post Full of Pictures

This is the storm from last week that kept my public schooler home from Friday to Thursday. Every once in a while a scooper comes along and pushes some snow around. The plow only drove down our street once, many of the streets are 3-4 inches deep with ice full of pot holes and tracks for the cars to drive along.

Little Nut Nut and E Nut kicking back eating a snowball snack.

Wing Nut loves the snow as much as I do :)

Little Nut Nut climbing down under the garden bench for yet
another snowball snack.

Wall Nut is building a sledding hill.
Woo Hoo!

So happy to play in the snow.

E Nut is trying out the hill. It is bigger than it looks.

 Wing Nut comes down backwards.

Little Nut Nut spins around all the way down.

Wicked cool snow and ice wave coming off shed.

Wall Nut shoveled out several times during the storm so we could
get in and out. It took a few days before they ever came to plow.

The two story part of the house in the back is our addition.
We are still working on it, it is still going to be a few more
months. You can see what the addition looks like from the

Happy Valentines Day from The Nut House & CHD Awareness Day 2010

The Nuts get Heart Shaped Valentines Cookies for Breakfast!!

Congenital Heart Defects are the Number 1 Birth Defect.
Congenital Heart Defects cross all borders, all cultures,
all income levels, there is no known cause, no cure.

Wee Nut's Heart is Perfect.

This is what happens when I think I can put the 5 kids to bed
in less time than the 7 minutes it takes to bake cookies.

Kids Got to Work Painting Their New Bedrooms

Because we can't do all of the work now can we, and by we, mostly I mean my husband, the Wall Nut who does most of the work on the addition.

Wing Nut is not only a Lego fanatic, he is a Wall-e fanatic.
Bright yellow it is!

He painted as far up as he could reach.

So excited and proud!

First coat of 2 different yellows, because all that bright
yellow is just too much for me.

Wall Nut and Little Nut Nut just finished the first coat of the
room he will share with Wee Nut.
Little Nut Nut took off before getting this picture.

Nice color!

E Nut enjoyed his open canvas.
This is color 1 for his New York Yankee Bedroom!

Fabulous painting of E Nut walking a dog.
No, we do not have a dog.
