Choosing to Potty Train

I have been asking my 2 yr old Little Nut Nut if he wants to use the potty for months, probably almost a year and he has had very little interest. I thought that maybe he was uncomfortable with the padded potty seat ring to set on the big potty, so we pulled the little, wash out after every use, potty seat down from the attic. He still was not interested and it sat in the tiny little bathroom for weeks untouched...except as a stool.

So at some point last week he started waking up with dry or mostly dry diapers in the morning and I started putting him on the potty...and he has been able to pee in the potty every morning for almost a week. Yay! Yippie! Yesterday he even used it several times and even managed to poop on the potty (and yes when the post title mentions potty training you should have known I was going to be talking about pee and poop!).

So, Yay! Great, we are getting somewhere with potty training and we might even get this one out of diapers before he turns 3 in July and before the new baby is due in July.

Oh, how I am not looking forward to having 3 kids in diapers! Logically, you would think I would be jumping for joy at the thought that Little Nut Nut is choosing to potty train all by himself. If you set the potty seat out they will use it. Except peeing on the potty is all this little boy can think about! Every ten minutes he is stripping his clothes off and insisting that he has to go. Then he is on the seat, and off the seat looking in, and back on the seat, and back off the seat looking in. He tries so hard to go pee and gets so mad when he can't. I just had to go through the whole ritual for 2 little squirts of pee.

Of course he has to do this at the end of the month...when I am trying to make payout for ChaCha...which looks like it is not going to happen. I am one article away from meeting my monthly goal at eHow for writing 10 articles a month (that very sadly got bumped down from 15 when I couldn't even write 10) and now I have writers block. Garrrrrrmmph!

I have been trying to get my veggies started from seed into the ground for weeks. We got the corn in a few weeks ago, along with the pole beans, and the sweet peas are still in their little bowl of dirt on the stoop where I left them 3 weeks ago. I have squash, zucchini, beets, dill, basil, red and yellow peppers, honey dew, cantaloupe and watermelon, eggplant and sunflowers all waiting to go into the ground. I got the big garden bed ready and was going to plant early last week and then we got this freeze and frost warning, so I waited for that to end and it has been raining for days...except when my parents were here for Memorial Day Weekend and then it was just too hot for me to deal with(lame excuse I know!) I thought today was the day, but now it started raining again. I guess I should just go out and plant in the rain, I know the veggies will love it! My poor tomato plants did not make it through the long wait...and they were thriving in there little pods. I should probably get a few more of them started. I think I lost 18 tomato plants in all...there might actually be one lone plant, although I am not sure which kind. I planted cherry, roma and some big slicers.

Wee Nut has been cutting 2 teeth on and off for the past few weeks and for the past few nights has had a terrible time with them. Which means no sleep for mama. I can't blame him completely, my back has been killing me for the past 2 days and nights and I couldn't sleep if I wanted too.

So I am having guilty mom issues trying to convince Little Nut Nut that he doesn't need to try to go pee-pee on the potty every ten minutes. I know the sooner he is potty trained the less money we have to spend on diapers and can put that money towards the addition...but boy oh boy my back can't take bending down to clean out the potty chair, and put his diaper back on and all of that, every 10 minutes. Since I am still almost 2 months from my due date, I know I am not in labor, but I gotta say, the back pain sure feels like it!

So, why oh why does my little Little Nut Nut suddenly want to potty train now?

Schools almost over!

Yippie!

Just over a week left and the kiddies are done for the year! I have to say that so far the school year has been about 3 weeks too long already. We are all just barely hanging on. As the days get longer, the kids are having a harder time getting to sleep at night and waking up bright and early every morning. I have been trying to get up with the sun to try to get a few things done and have some time to myself, but the kids keep getting up earlier every day. Which gives me less time to get my thoughts in order for the day. And it also makes for some tired grumpy kids by the time they get home from school. All I know is, I am sooooo tired and I can't wait for this year to be over!

Its not that they will be sleeping in and giving me any type of break once school is over, they will still be waking up bright and early, but at least at some point during the day, we can turn everything off, take a break for an hour and maybe take a nap. At least get some sort of recharging quite time to help get them through the day...and I guess help get me through the day too. At this point, I can't quite figure out how far pregnant I am. Somewhere between 31-33 weeks...I think. The only thing I can remember is that the baby is due at the end of July on Little Nut Nut's 3rd birthday, but for some reason, my overtired little brain will not let me figure out, or remember how far along I am. This baby is starting to get big though...just in time for the hot and humid weather to settle in nicely lol.

So, only 2 more days left after today, then Field Day on Monday, and the last day next Friday is only a 1/2 day...then we are done! Yippie! And then summer vacation is here! Yippie!

Welcome to the Nut House

My motto is "There is nothing wrong with a little crazy in your day" and I completely believe it. I think if I didn't allow just a bit of crazy into my daily routine I would go completely bonkers.

My Nut House consists of my myself, my husband William, my 4 boys ages 7, 5, 2 and 1 yrs old and we are expecting another baby in July! We still don't know if this one is a boy or a girl, I love the surprise. Some would say that it is better to be prepared...like if this one is a girl, they say it would be nice to know to get ready. I feel that with all the crazy things that I could be surprised with, waiting to find out the sex of the baby is a happy surprise anyway you put it.

My 1 yr old was born last year in May with a Congenital Heart Defect that surprised us...and that is one of those bad surprises that I could do with out. His defect is Double Inlet, Single Ventricle with Pulmonary Atresia. At 6 days old they tried to put a Stent in his PDA to keep it open and found that his arteries were too twisted and couldn't get to the duct. So at 9 days old he had the BT Shunt, which is an Open Heart procedure, and just in time. We had a very scary day and even scarier night not knowing if he would survive. When he was 5 months old he had his second surgery that was a Bi-Lateral Glenn procedure. He turned 1 yrs old just a few weeks ago and by looking at him you would never know what he went through his first few days and weeks of life. He is my hero and always will be.

My oldest is almost 8 yr old! Holy Moly how the heck did that happen! He is going through some issues, among other things and we just recently...as of this week, decided that we would start Homeschooling him as of next yr. I just found out about a Homeschool convention in Richmond coming up in a few weeks and we are going to go and find him a curriculum that works for both him and me. I always wanted to homeschool my kids, but as we kept having more kids, we decided to wait a bit longer, now there is no denying that I am ready to homeschool at least one of my kids.

My second child is 5 yrs old and for years thought that if he jumped off the couch high enough he would actually fly...and he tried many times. He is a wicked sweet boy and loves to play with his brothers. If it were up to him he would pick up his 1 yr old brother and run off on an adventure in the backyard, teaching him ninja moves or going on a heroic knights quest. He is getting to that Ah-Ha! moment with reading and shocks himself when he realizes that he can actually read the book in front of him, although he still prefers to have me read to him...which always makes me happy :)

I have to say that my 3rd child freaks me out a bit...in a good way though. He is almost 3 and is learning to read already. He knew how to read all of his letters and many of his numbers up to 20 by the time he was 18 months old. When I realized that he was actually reading the letters and could bring me any letter block that I asked for I was floored. At first I thought it was just a random thing, but then I started to notice that while I was teaching my 5 yr old to read, he was soaking it all in and will sometimes tell his big brother what the word on his flash card is. I think I am going to have a hard time keeping up with this one!

The little baby in the belly is due on my 3rd boy's 3rd birthday...I am hoping, as I always so with my summer babies especially, that the baby comes early, but it might be fun to have 2 birthdays on the same day. I am sure it will have its ups & downs as they grow up, but I still think it might be fun...but I also think by the time the hot July rolls around I will be ready to give it all up.

Myself, I am a jeweler by trade, taking a bit of a break still trying to recover from Owain's heart surgeries and even after a year, trying to pick myself back up and move on with my life. A few years ago I started freelance writing and have picked that up quite a bit more in the past 4 months or so to make up for the fact that I am not a jeweler everyday anymore. I have a few other blogs, one for my articles and a few for my business if you want to read my articles and see what is going on with my jewelry...which honestly is not nearly enough for my sanity right now. I started working for ChaCha a few months ago and I love it! ChaCha is basically a text message answering service. If you text on your cell phone to ChaCha (242242) you can ask any question you like and ChaCha guides will look up the answer for you...neat huh! It is a great way to work at home with the kids, and I get to work anytime of the day or night...which is huge plus for me when I am awoken by a child in the middle of the night and find myself unable to get back to sleep, at least I can get some work done. I have a tendency to work way more than I should and feel like I am still not working nearly enough, somehow there is just never enough money.

My husband, Will has been going to school for Criminal Justice for more years than we can both recall. He takes a few classes, or sometimes, most of the time, just one class per semester. He works full time and comes home to work on our DIY home remodel and as of just over a year ago a 2 story addition on the back of the house that includes 4 new bedrooms for the kids, 2 bathrooms, a new studio for me and an expanded family room that will hopefully be livable sometime in the next 6 months. We started it just before Owain was born & has taken us much longer than we were planning on...isn't that how it always goes though. I am still working on my home remodel/home addition blog, that you may or may not have to wait to see...I guess its a work in progress that involves years and years of pictures...way back before we updated our camera with a digital, so I have some scanning to do before I allow you all to see it.

Well I guess that is the Nut House in a Nutshell. There is so much more to our crazy little house than that, and I guess that is how this blog came about...
